New Rice Pseudomolecules will be released

The International Rice Genome Sequencing Project (IRGSP) completed the genome sequencing of Oryza sativa ssp. japonica cultivar Nipponbare in December 2004. The official version of the rice pseudomolecules (Build 3.0) was released in February 2005. These sequences were used as the common standard for various analysis of the genome, which were published in the Nature (436:793-800,2005). It also served as the template for manual curation of annotation in conjunction with the First Rice Annotation Project Meeting (RAP1), and the annotation database was published in RAD-DB (September 1st, 2006 : http://rapdb.dna.affrc.go.jp/).

The next pseudomolecules (Build4) were released in August 2005. These molecules were also used to update the manual curation of annotation as part of the Second Rice Annotation Project Meeting (RAP2), and the RAP-database has been updated with this information.

After the release of Build4, the Rice Genome Research Program has been working on rice genome sequence; trying to close the gaps and sequencing chromosomal ends. It also works on improving sequence quality and the accuracy of clone assembly. We are in the process of constructing the most updated pseudomolecules Build5 that will be released within the year 2008.
