The Latest YAC-base Physical Map of Rice

We provide here the latest version of our YAC-base physical map of the 12 rice chromosomes (Saji. et al. Genome 44: 32-37, 2001). The map was constructed by using 1439 DNA markers in our high-density linkage map (Harushima et al. Genetics 148: 479-494, 1998) for the YAC selection through colony-hybridization or PCR screening of RGP YAC library derived from Oryza sativa cv. Nipponbare (Umehara. et al. Mol Breeding 1: 79-89, 1995). A total of 1892 YACs were selected and 675 distinct YACs that comprise the minimum tiling path were aligned within the map. The latest YAC-base physical map consists of 297 YAC contigs and 142 YAC islands, with an estimated physical distance of 270 Mb which corresponds to approximately 63% of the entire rice genome. All materials and information on the high-density YAC filters and DNA markers used in the above study are available from the MAFF DNA bank upon request via the web (MAFF DNA Bank 2000).

The first column corresponds to the DNA markers in our high density linkage map with the position in the map indicated in cM in the next column. Selected YACs positioned by colony /Southern hybridization or PCR screening using the DNA markers are shown with the corresponding YAC number (chimeric YACs are indicated with a letter "C" following their number) as follows:

: YACs which comprise the minimum tiling path
: YAC contig regions with corresponding length in kb
 : centromeric region
