| Getting to know WhoGA |
The Rice Genome Research Program (RGP) has performed manual annotation of the
12 rice chromosomes using the Build 04 pseudomolecules of Oryza sativa ssp. japonica
cultivar Nipponbare. The results can now be viewed through WhoGA, a rice genome annotation
viewer using the GBrowse web-server application. In addition to predicted genes, WhoGA also
includes gene models for pseudogenes with or without EST / full-length cDNA support, regions
wherein genes could not be modeled although showing significant homology to known genes,
and ORFs predicted by a single gene prediction program. This additional information may
facilitate a more detailed analysis of the genome that may lead in clarifying the structure
of specific regions of each chromosomes, as well as possible identification of previously
unknown genes in rice. The annotation data can be accessed by specifying the position based
on the Build 04 pseudomolecules of the rice genome or molecular markers in the region of
interest using the search function.
